If you’ve ever felt like something is missing…
You’ve finished training, been with clients, and yet… something still feels off. There’s a lingering doubt, an uncertainty. Maybe you’ve stood at the bedside, feeling the weight of what’s happening but unsure how to fully meet it. How do you handle the complex realities that arise in the room. How do you guide families through the unpredictable reality of their loved one dying? You’ve read the books, watched the videos, studied, practiced… you know how to be with death. So why do you feel like an imposter?
It can feel paralyzing.
Even the best educated deathworkers find themselves unprepared for the nuanced, deeply human moments that arise in this work. Searching for that missing piece.
I know, because that was me.
As a Deathworker, Green Funeral Director, and Death Educator, I’ve spent years with thousands of clients, tending to the intimate process of active dying. Years of giving eagerly and compassionately on the outside, with a storm of uncertainty inside. I kept searching for the missing piece—the one that would finally make me feel like the confident, grounded deathworker I knew I could be.
Until I found it.
I’m Lauren Carroll, Co-Founder of La Mort & Co-Founder of Deathwives
Everything changed when I learned how to:
→ Ground My Nervous System in Death’s Presence
→ Tune Into My Body’s Response in the Room
→ Harness My Ability to Listen Beyond Words
→ Master the Subtle Art of Holding Space
→ Befriend the complexities of the dying body
→ Deeply understand the stages of death
→ Expand my Grief literacy
→ Tend to my own grief
Get the multidimensional skillset that transformed my own practice and helped me go from feeling uncertain and emotionally overwhelmed with each new client, to serving from a place of deeply rooted, professional confidence. I’ve bundled all of my tools, lessons, and practices (along with the wisdom of friend and colleagues) into this 8-week framework and am teaching it live for the first time.
Learn my go-to practices for confident, professional, embodied deathwork.
After our 8 weeks together, you’ll emerge a confident, grounded death doula ready to stand in your full presence and help the families and humans you are here to help. You’ll press up against your emotional and spiritual thresholds, and reweave your relationships with your work, with Death, and with yourself.
Each week, you'll receive assignments, in-depth self-study material, and video lessons to prepare for our live classes on Fridays. For eight weeks, we’ll gather live in passionate discussion, with special guest teachers dropping in bringing their own unique expertise, and a transformational final project at the end. In our small cohort of dedicated death doulas, you’ll build real connections and deepen your craft.
Wisdom, clarity, & ease you can feel in your body.
You’ll become a scholar of the dying process, gaining the kind of nuanced, first hand knowledge that usually only comes from years of working face to face with dying. You’ll learn to track subtle signals, listen beyond words, and walk into any death situation grounded in confidence and clarity. You’ll transform your own grief and life stories into powerful tools that expand your ability to hold space for others. And you’ll learn to do it all, with ease.
Plus, you’ll receive a very special hand-packed care package in the mail to enhance your learning and lend a little magic to our time together.
If you’re a death doula who:
has found yourself panicking, guessing, or wondering, “What do I do now?” in the face of complex, emotional situations, or
is new to deathwork, already has some form of training or apprenticeship, but still feels that something is missing, or
actively works with clients but wants to uplevel your skillset, renew your passion for this work, and develop an unshakable confidence, or
loves to keep learning as a scholar of death and feels most at home engaging in ongoing professional studies, or
senses that your inner grief or personal history is getting in the way of being fully present with your clients,
The Embodied Death Doula is for you.
The Embodied Death Doula is also open to aspiring death doulas who are at the start of their professional journey and want to learn how to fully embody the role before working with clients. Please note, however, that this is NOT a beginner course or death doula certification program, and we expect all attendees to have a firm understanding of death doula basics.

Our Teaching / Learning / Creating Style at La Mort
We leave behind the polished, gate-keepy approach to education. We teach in ways that carry story and experience. We listen. We laugh (a lot). We go off-script sometimes. We cry (with you)(for those you’ve loved)(for those we’ve loved). We like science and studies and logical frameworks, but also mysticism and poetry and all that stuff. We really love to honor history and those who came before. We move through some serious curricula, but don’t take anything too seriously. We dedicate ourselves to seeing you, and want you to feel seen. We deeply honor our intuition and yours. We lead with integrity (always). And we welcome the odd-balls and misfits, because it takes one to know one.
